No, Poland is not a member of the European Exchange Rate Mechanism, which is one of the main obstacles to adopting the Euro in the short term. Virtually everywhere you can pay by card or using smartphone or smartwatch. Currency exchange offices and ATMs are also available.

As in any big city you just have to be careful, but in general Warsaw is safe.

The most popular Polish dish includes pierogi – they vary in filling depending on the region of Poland. We are very fond of soups – you should definitely try żurek, a soup made with white sausage and smoked meat, served with hard boiled eggs. Other popular and much-loved dishes include bigos (cabbage stew), served rather in winter, and chłodnik – a cold soup based on kefir, very refreshing in summer. A few more to discover: zapiekanki, pączki, kompot…

It depends how you look at it. We modern Varsovians think that it is not necessarily so. For us, the centre is the area around the Palace of Culture and Science, there are a lot of popular shops, restaurants and cafes in this quarter. The Old Town is more associated with tourism, although the city authorities are taking numerous initiatives to make it also a place where Varsovians will spend more time.
